(1) If a capacitor has a lower rated voltage than the circuit voltage, an overvoltage will be applied to the capacitor. (2) If a capacitor has a capacitance rating too low for the circuit, the capacitor may overheat due to the ripple current or cause decreased smoothing. 2.
